LIFE EVENTS

Everyone who lives in the Parish of Fawdon  is welcome to have Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals at St Mary's Church,

or to have our clergy take a Funeral at the Crematorium, Cemetry or Graveside.

You do not have to be a regular Church attender to celebrate these life events with us at St Mary's,

so if you are hoping or have a Baptism or Wedding, if you want to plan in advance for your own Funeral,

or if you have been bereaved and would like a Christian Funeral for your relative, please get in touch

BAPTISMS

Baptisms, or Christenings as they are often called, are the initiation ceremony into the Christian faith.

They are available at any age form babies to 103 and beyond!

Parents will need to meet with our clergy to discuss the baptism of their children. And adults wishing to be baptised will need to go on a short course about the Christian faith.

Baptisms are usually held on set Sundays at 12:30pm and are free.

Godparents need to have been baptised themselves.

Up to 4 Godparents can be recorded in the baptism registers.

WEDDINGS

Weddings can be conducted in St Mary's Church for those who live in the Parish or who have a qualifying connection to the Church.

We also read the Banns of marriage for those who live in Fawdon but are getting married elsewhere.

Weddings are arranged via appointment and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes regarding a date.

The fees for Banns of Marriage and Weddings are set each year by the Church of England so please enquire about the current fees.

FUNERALS

Do you know that everyone is entitled to a Church of England funeral even if they are not a regular church-goer?

Funerals can take place in Church, at the Crematorium. Cemetry, Graveside or even a Woodland Burial site and our clergy can officiate at these services.

Before the service, we will take time to plan the service with the family to try to make the service right for you.

If you have been bereaved please tell your funeral director that you would like us to take your service and they will contact us.

We are also very happy to meet with people to plan their own service

prior to their death.

We are now able to conduct these services in Church once more

but with social distancing and reduced numbers

.

Please call 0191 285 6153 for more information.

FUNERAL RESOURCES DURING COVID-19

During this time many people are unable to mark the passing of someone's life in the usual way given that numbers at funerals are restricted and many people are shielding at home.

We have put together some resources for you to mark someone's life and say goodbye at home.
