ABOUT US

At St Mary’s, we seek to be a people of prayer.

In relationship with God, we desire to foster a safe, caring, and outward-looking community,

reaching out to all with God’s love.

Through us, we hope more people will recognise God's presence in their lives

and come to realise that they are valued children of God.

FIND US

Saint Mary's Church is part of the Diocese of Newcastle in the Church of England.

It was built in 1959 to serve the Parish of Fawdon.

St Mary's is situated in the middle of Fawdon, just tucked behind the main road and community center on Mapledene Road.

Our church serves as a community hall and spiritual home for so many different people from different walks of life.

No matter who you are, you are welcome at St Mary's.

We would love to see you at any of our services or activities.

BELONGING

We believe that God wants us to develop our worship and community life so that all find a place where they can know that they belong to God.

PRESENCE

We believe that God wants us to be present to the local community, serving needs and connecting with people's implicit faith.

INVITATION

We believe that God calls us to invite others to join us in both prayer and in service, deepening faith and action.

ALWAYS WELCOME

Here at St Mary’s we want to welcome all.

Whether you’re a Geordie, a Southerner, originally from overseas

 we don’t mind at all!

We welcome little babies and excited toddlers, teenagers who are growing up too fast,

the over 60’s (even if you’ve not grown up yet)  and everyone else in the middle.

We welcome those who are single, married, divorced, widowed, straight, gay, or confused.

We welcome those who forget names, and those who struggle to learn.

We welcome those who need a place of peace, and those who can’t sit still.

We offer a welcome to those who work too hard, don’t work,

or are retired with a few hours to spare.

We welcome those who are inked, pierced, both or neither.

We welcome you if you’re having problems, having more bad days than good.

We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted.

We welcome you whether you can sing like Pavarotti or just growl quietly to yourself.

We don’t care if you’re more Christian than the Pope, or you’ve never been to church before.

We welcome Newcastle (and Sunderland) fans;

runners, artists, latte-sippers, vegetarians and those who like a pint (or a gin!)

We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now.

We welcome locals, visitors, seekers, doubters…

and you!
